TikTok Shop Korea Launch: 2026 Date and Prep Guide | Z MEDIA
TikTok Shop is not live in South Korea as of July 2026. Industry reports from March 2026 point to a launch in Q3 2026, which would make Korea the platform's second East Asian market after Japan. TikTok has not confirmed an official date. Updated July 2026.
Is TikTok Shop available in Korea right now?
No. As of July 2026 there is no local TikTok Shop checkout in South Korea. Korean users can watch shoppable content, but they cannot buy inside the app. Seller Center does not offer Korea as a shop region. TikTok's commerce presence in Korea is currently limited to ads and creator monetisation.
That said, the launch chatter is loud. Reports from March 2026 say TikTok plans to open TikTok Shop Korea in the third quarter of 2026. Industry coverage frames Korea as the natural follow-up to the Japan launch of 2025.
When will TikTok Shop launch in Korea officially?
The most credible window is Q3 2026, per Tuke Marketing. The pace reportedly depends on how the Japan site performs, so slippage into Q4 is possible. TikTok has not published a Korea announcement on its newsroom.
The strategic backdrop supports a 2026 launch. After the US joint venture deal closed in January 2026, ByteDance cut its stake in US TikTok to 19.9% and is redirecting around $14 billion towards Asian e-commerce and platform expansion. Korea is the world's fifth largest e-commerce market, per the same report. It is an obvious target.
The competitive picture is harder than Japan. Coupang and Naver Shopping dominate Korean e-commerce, and live commerce is already mainstream through Naver Shopping Live. TikTok Shop will enter as a challenger, not a pioneer.
What launch signals should you watch?
TikTok follows a repeatable playbook before every market launch. We tracked it across the UK, the US, Japan and the June 2026 EU wave. Watch for:
A newsroom announcement. The EU expansion was announced on 28 May 2026 and went live on 15 June 2026. That is 18 days of notice. Korea will likely get a similar short runway.
Seller registration opening early. For the EU wave, sellers could register before consumer launch. A Korea option appearing in Seller Center is the strongest signal.
Seoul commerce job postings. TikTok hiring category managers, seller operations and logistics roles in Seoul.
Local logistics partnerships. TikTok partnered with local courier networks for its four new EU markets. Expect similar deals with Korean carriers.
Creator affiliate betas. Invitations for Korean creators to join commerce programmes usually precede launch by 1 to 3 months.
What are the entity and legal requirements for Korea?
TikTok has not published Korean seller requirements yet, so treat this as preparation, not gospel. Based on Korean e-commerce law and how TikTok Shop onboards sellers in its 21 live markets, expect to need:
A Korean business registration number, since every TikTok Shop market requires a locally registered entity for domestic selling.
A mail order sales report, the standard registration Korean law requires of online sellers under its e-commerce consumer protection rules.
Korean VAT registration. Korea applies 10% VAT to most goods.
A local bank account in the exact name of the registered entity. TikTok enforced this rule in France and the other EU markets, and there is no reason to expect Korea to differ.
Category compliance documents for regulated goods such as cosmetics and supplements.
Entity setup in Korea typically takes 4 to 8 weeks for foreign brands. If you wait for launch day to start, you will miss the early window.
What does the Korean creator landscape look like?
Korea has one of the most mature creator economies in Asia. Live selling is a familiar format thanks to Naver Shopping Live and years of home shopping culture. That cuts both ways. Creators already know how to sell on camera, but they also expect professional terms and clear commission structures.
Plan your funnel in the house order: affiliate first, organic second, paid third. Recruit affiliate creators before launch, build an organic posting engine on your own account, then layer paid amplification on proven content. This is the same sequence that worked in the UK and in every EU launch since.
What should your 90-day prep plan look like?
Phase | Days | Focus |
|---|---|---|
Foundations | 1 to 30 | Entity scoping, VAT advice, category compliance, pricing model at an assumed 5% to 9% commission |
Content and creators | 31 to 60 | Korean-language account live, 3 to 5 posts per week, shortlist 50 affiliate creators, sample kits ready |
Launch readiness | 61 to 90 | 3PL contract signed, 20+ SKUs photographed and translated, launch offers modelled, Seller Center watch rota |
If your products are digital rather than physical, the prep list is shorter. See our guide to selling digital products on TikTok Shop.
What mistakes did brands make in previous launches?
A worked example shows why timing matters. When TikTok Shop launched in the EU, commission started at 5%, then rose to 9% on 8 January 2026. On a ₩38,000 product (about £21), the difference between 5% and 9% is ₩1,520 versus ₩3,420 per order. A seller doing 5,000 orders in the launch window kept roughly ₩9.5m more under the early rate. Early entry is a margin decision, not just a marketing one.
The repeat mistakes we saw across the US, Japan and EU launches:
Starting creator outreach on launch day instead of 60 days before.
No local entity ready, losing the first 2 months to paperwork.
Treating TikTok Shop like a marketplace listing exercise rather than a content channel.
Ignoring new seller commission windows. In the EU, eligible new sellers pay 4% for 60 days.
Under-forecasting stock for viral spikes.
Our TikTok Shop glossary covers the terms you will meet in Seller Center. For a live example of how we track a pre-launch market, see our Sweden launch tracker and the full list of TikTok Shop countries.
